Congratulations, Mayor-elect Ballard! Congratulations, incoming City-County Council Republicans! Please get together and hammer out an aggressive, workable agenda in the best interest of those who elected you.

Now we’re talking
Governor Daniels has stated that he will propose an amendment to the Indiana constitution that deals with property taxes. While he has not as yet made such a proposal, it is hoped that the amendment will place a cap on property tax increases, year-over-year. However, the rest of the (scant-on-details) story leads one to suspect […]

A Modest Proposal
from a ridiculous buffoon. Sure, let’s create new taxes without doing anything to prevent property taxes from being raised later. Please, someone, write an amendment to the state constitution eliminating the property tax and addressing the myriad taxing authorities who are unaccountable. Please.

Euchre, property tax and education + Beer = Fun!
I recently attended a block party/Euchre tournament (in which I got trounced in trying to defend my previous year’s champion status). Much beer was consumed and, as often happens in these situations, the subject of politics was raised between the late-stayers (read: most inebriated). The subject was property taxes and I was pitted against a […]

They still don’t get it
Here’s an excerpt from a story on Indystar.com regarding a proposal to require school bus drivers to wear unifroms.
The total cost of the proposal is unclear, but a high estimate for laundering and uniform delivery service is $440 per week, Wardwell said. Some drivers don’t like the idea of wearing uniforms. They prepared a petition they […]

Why Can’t We Leave A Child Behind?
Conservatives are not much for protesting. Indeed, I attended the first political protest of my life at the “Black Sunday” property tax protest. In all candor, it seemed to me to be a lot of idle time. I understand now why so many hippie-types are prone to protesting. However, it seems that the Black Sunday protest […]

Unchecked Arrogance at 200 E. Washington
Before I begin, let me apologize for the double post. I have been bottled up in the bar exam for two days and have been raring to go on these two stories for that entire time.
On Tuesday, the City-County Council voted to raise the county income tax 65%. The vote was 15-13 in favor of the proposal […]

Well Done Governor Daniels
There are two stories in the Star that I think merit some comment, here and here. The basic gist of both is that Governor Daniels has come to the obvious conclusion that the commercial property in Marion, Delware, Posey and Gibson counties were not assessed for the latest round of property tax assessments.
In Marion County […]

Before They Cart Me Off…
I wanted, first, to introduce myself. Hi. I’m a friend of Karl’s. You can call me Birdy. Second, I want to let you know I’ll be posting here from time to time. (Excuse me while I scrape and grovel before Karl for a sec. Okay, I’m back.) He apparently thinks I’ll have some thought-provoking stuff […]

Indiana Political Review Resurrected
With the recent uproar over property taxes, it seemed that it would be a good idea to revisit the idea of launching this blog. For next several weeks I will be researching property taxes - how they work, who has the power to levy on my property, etc. During that period, I will report regularly […]
